Lafayette is an urban planning and architecture practice based in Paris but with a nationwide presence, specialising in the complex territorial challenges of the 21st century. These include the revitalisation of suburban areas, the regeneration of city centres, the transformation of major carbon-intensive transport infrastructures, the adaptation of mass leisure facilities to climate change and the measured densification of the heart of metropolises. Founded in 2017, the agency combines experience in strategic urban planning and project management, so that the two visions feed each other.
Since its foundation in 2017, the agency has acquired a wealth of experience in strategic urban planning and project management, so that the two visions can feed off each other. In 2022, Lafayette won the international urban planning competition for the Grande Porte des Alpes area launched by Grand Lyon. In 2024, the office piloted one of the four finalist consortium of the competitive dialogue for the 4th generation of Île de Nantes urban development.
Lafayette is formed by two founding partners, architects turned urban planners, each with around 15 years' experience: Olivier Lacombe and Charles Mariambourg. They combine urban planning cultures inherited from l'AUC (Grand Prix de l'urbanisme 2021), for whom they have managed major urban projects (Lyon Part-Dieu, Chapelle International in Paris), with architectural cultures borrowed from their international experience (Great Britain, Japan, China).
The human-scale team is complemented by a variety of specialised partners, unified by a collaborative approach to projects and proficiency in the latest generation of technical tools. In our view, this integrated approach is essential to ensure that development becomes a lever for our society's carbon transition.
