Following the Paris Agreement, France and China set up a strategic partnership on sustainable cities, leading to the Prime Minister’s visit to Wuhan in February 2017. An international competition was announced in 2017 for the French-Chinese eco city of Caidan. Lafayette is co-designing the master plan with AREP. Working in collaboration with consultants Carbone 4, the study includes a 2°C-compatible strategy to reduce the environmental impact of new construction, both upstream (materials, equipment, installation) and during building operation in the Chinese context. The design fosters bioclimatic design maximising free supply of energy in the heart of the area.
